You are not broken

The wounds we carry —whether physical or psychological— are real, but they are not the final authority over who we are. Suffering can mark us deeply, and yet it does not possess the right to dictate the course of our character or the meaning of our lives. Still, many people carry their scars with quiet shame or regret. At times, those wounds become explanations for our pain, and sometimes they become the stories through which we continue to see ourselves primarily as victims of what has happened to us.

Life, however, contains genuine tragedy. Malevolence exists in the world, and some individuals commit acts of profound cruelty. If you have suffered under such circumstances, your pain deserves to be recognized with seriousness and compassion. What happened to you matters, and the weight of it should not be dismissed or minimized.

Yet even deep suffering does not mean that you are irreparably broken. In Japanese culture there is the art of Kintsugi, where shattered pottery is repaired with lacquer mixed with gold or silver. The cracks are not hidden; they are illuminated. The fracture becomes part of the object’s story, and the vessel emerges not only restored, but uniquely strengthened and more beautifull then before.

We possess a similar capacity. When we turn toward our suffering rather than turning away from it, when we confront it honestly and integrate it, something remarkable occures. The very places where we were wounded can become the sources of depth, wisdom, and strength. What once appeared to be evidence of our brokenness can become proof that we endured suffering and chose not to be defined by it.

Your scars are not merely remnants of pain; they are markers of the battles you have survived.
